Guidance For Repairing A Q&A Session

Good question. Here is what I would do. Up top is an icon to lock objects in the timeline. Click this "on". Next hold the control key while clicking on the audience objects to select them. Once they are all selected drag and drop them to a new track. Next I would start processing these at the object level. I would get set snapshots/presets for four zones or starting points. For example someone who is loud and may have plosives a preset with HPF, compressor and EQ. Next would be a preset for close but not as loud and no plosives. Maybe just compress and EQ. ETC. Now when you listen to each object pick the preset that is closest to your needs and tidy it up from there. After you get those all consistent finish up processing at the track level. Hope this helps. Jeff

Try cutting your VIP buffer in half or 1/4. Also ASIO buffer in half.

    Subjective Opinions on Applying Reverb

If the first or even second thing you notice about a mix is the reverb, most likely it's too much reverb. I also often hear reverb which is too big (long) for the mix. I also don't like hearing a lot of low end or low mids in the reverb, especially in dense or upbeat music. When I am working with my interns I always get them to finish everything else in a mix first, and only then add verb to what you need, if anything at all.

Yet another Samplitude to ProTools export question!

    Thanks for the correction.

Yet another Samplitude to ProTools export question!

Are you wanting to give them a stereo file or individual tracks? Either way remember PT only does 24 bit files, no 32 bit.

Which EQ and where to place it in the signal chain?

I use the channel EQ before anything else. I use this to cut any frequencies I do not want. I then do compression, gating and general tone shaping. Last I use another eq for any boosting duties. As a general rule I go through every track and cut. When I am satisfied I go back and do any boosting.

Why did you come to Samplitude or Sequoia?

In the late 90's I REALLY hated PT. You would make an EQ change and it would need to render the file. Change compression---render the file. Samplitude sounded better, was processed in real time, 32 bit float instead of fixed point, master and burn your cd from Samplitude. Nothing else on the market did that! Fast forward 13-14 years it's still my fave by a mile.

    Expander/gate

Hello Sascha. I have a request for you and really hope you will take me up one it. I want a great sounding/functioning gate that only you can do. Floorfish is so useful with the frequency conscious gating. I would like a new gate that can use freq (or not) option, along with attack, hold and release settings, look ahead capability, side chaining, and different release curves. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Thanks for all your past, present and future work! Jeff

Have Samplitude scan your VST folder. This should do it for you! Jeff

Just bought Samplitude 11 and crying for help!

Your gear all looks to be OK, lets check your settings. Are you using ASIO? What are your ASIO buffers set to? VIP buffers? These have a lot of impact on how well things run. Also make sure all drivers are up to date. Make sure virus protection is turned off while working with audio. Jeff
  16. As you work between formats you need to separate the diff between wave file bit depth and mix engine bit depth. Your wave files are recorded at 16, 20, or most often 24 bit, NOT float. All of today's software takes 24 bit wave files. Samplitudes mix engine works at 32 bit floating point (unless you set it different). Any fade in/out, EQ or volume changes will become 32 bit at output. If you record in samplitude and then export to PT just render your files at 24 bit mono. In fact every software I can think of will take 24 bit mono with no issues.
  17. A mono plug will have the exact same thing happening in both speakers unless you are hard panned. A stereo plug can have different things going on in each speaker. Both have their place in mixing. Jeff

    impossible to start Samplitude

Sorry to hear you are having such issues. I only use Asus mb in my studio as they have been flawless for me for 11 yrs now. Is your system crashing when opening Sam or upon hitting playback?

    take composer

Go to the Samplitude.com site and check out the video for take composer.
  20. Thanks for the correction Benjamin, I read that wrong. Jeff
  21. In PT use the "consolodate files" function. All tracks will now be one file each and all the same length. Open these wave files in Sequoia. Have fun! Jeff

Can't Check "multi Cpu Support" In System Option

That sounds like an XP or MB issue if two programs are not seeing your 4 cores. Something is not allowing other apps to recognize the core structure. Sorry I don't have any suggestions to help fix it, but it does not sound like a SAM issue. good luck Jeff
  23. You will need to open a program that is not getting sound and open the "properties" or "audio" tab at top left. Choose the sound card you want to use. Another way would be to disable your computers sound card so that all applications see only the one card. Hope this helps Jeff
  24. It sounds like your programs are tying to access different sound cards. Sam maybe trying to see ASIO and your other programs looking for soundblaster or other.
