    midi input from computer keyboard

It's only possible with step-recording in the MIDI-Editor. But the keyboard layout is analytical, you press the name of the tone (C, D, E, ...).

  3. You can save a Track FX Preset and recall it on another track. VSTi can be included or excluded when you create the Track FX Preset. But I don't know if the VSTi's maybe temporary edit buffer is also copied in every case. In any case, the Track FX are a cool thing. Greetings, Frank
  4. Nice Video Yes, I also did my first MIDI steps on Atari ST. Can you post your skin as .zip file (renamed to .txt) here please? Or contact me via forum PM. Regards, Frank
  5. You can use effects and audio plug-ins on the Audio Return tracks of the VSTi. Check which tracks receive audio return in the VSTi manager. (In samplitude, you can keep both a VSTi feeding MIDI objects and the VSTi audio returns on the same track, but especially with multi-timbral sampler VSTis, you might prefer separate tracks for feeding MIDI and audio returns which is possible, too. The VSTi routing assistant dialog comes up if you insert any VSTi which has more than one stereo output. You can change the routing also afterwards if needed.) Also, if you play your VSTi live, you have to use Hybrid engine/mixer monitoring with ASIO. Hope this helps. Regards, Frank

    New User Question

There is even a CPU Peakmeter-per-track mode: open the view options (SHIFT+TAB) dialog and switch on CPU Peakmeter. (Although I don't have tried it much).

Samplitude SE -- where to find latest version?

Yes, Samplitude 11 Silver is treated the same as Samplitude SE regarding upgrades. I found no price list for US, but here is a link to the german price list which can give you some orientiation about upgrade possibilities already: http://www.samplitude.com/uploads/SAMPLITU...st2_euro_de.pdf Greetings, Frank

    Scale volume automation curve logarithmically?

It is scaled in dB which is logarithmic in regard to the level. (This "dB-linear" scaling has the advantage that setting a volume automation curve point exactly in the middle of to other points exactly on the line which connects the two already existing points doesn't change the volume. Therefore the "dB-linear" scaling is the most natural or correct way to handle volume automation curves. Another way would be to scale the curve according to the volume fader position (which is not linear in dB!), makes some sense, too, but then adding a volume curve point on the straight line between two already existing automation points would change the volume automation, although the curve doesn't change at all.)

    midi-editor controller

    EZ drummer in Samp 9

yep. I got it too. Phew, glad to hear that. So I cannot convince you that you are forced to go the V11 update

    Thinking of using Samplitude 10se

Music Studio has more content (VSTi synth, audio loops). If you don't need that, you can go with V10 SE, too. To timestretch: either use the audio object editor (double click the audio object) or switch to timestretch mousemode (clock icon) and simply grab the end of the object to stretch it. Greetings, Frank

    EZ drummer in Samp 9

First, check if playback of MIDI objects work. If this works, but "live" playing does not work, EZDrummer is not in monitoring. Switch the audio engine mode to "mixer monitoring" (only possible with an ASIO driver system). Then make sure that EZDrummer is in monitoring mode: EZDrummers track should be a "MIDI" track and the blue speaker icon button (the monitoring resp. THRU button) needs to be switched on. With older samp versions, it might be neccessary to keep a "dummy" MIDI object in the hosting EZdrummer track, otherwise the MIDI/VST engine might be not active on that track. Greetings, Frank

    EZ drummer in Samp 9

Samp needs to rescan your VSTi folder. This can be done from the system options dialog -> plug-in settings. Just pick the VSTi folder once more. If this doesn't do it, delete your vstplugins.ini file besides the samplitude exe.

Cut, Paste, Duplicate, Insert, Delete Time

You can use copy&paste with ripple turned on. Sequoia also has many options with multi-point cut editing.

Cut, Paste, Duplicate, Insert, Delete Time

Menu "Objects" > "Cut Objects..." > "Duplicate Object multiple..." In that dialog you can specify the length of the duplication range, either in beats, samples, time, ... Unfortunately, pre-configuring this setting with an active VIP range doesn't work. Greetings, Frank

Cut, Paste, Duplicate, Insert, Delete Time

Menu "Edit" > "Insert Silence..." inserts silence globally in the current range. Menu "Edit" > "More..." > "Delete with Ripple" removes the range from the VIP. Greetings, Frank

    effects on midi object

If you are using a VSTi Piano (for example the VITA piano) you can use the track EQ together with automation - then you don't have to freeze/bounce the MIDI to audio. But if it is an external MIDI sound module you have to record the audio signal first. If you want to use the object EQ for the VSTi piano parts, you can also freeze the individual MIDI object to audio (MIDI object freeze command).

    Versions of Samplitude

MountainKing already pointed out the main differences. Some more: In music studio you cannot change the fx order. Max. samplerate is 48 kHz. No revolver tracks (playlist-switching on tracks), no take composer (extended record take management). No options for restauration suite or AAF/OMF import/export add-ons. No support for external audio fx devices to be integrated. Music studio doesn't have Groove Quantize, no Audio Quantize, some fx are not included ( EQ116, sMax, Variverb, realtime Roomsimulator, full versions of am-phibia, am-track, am-pulse), no MIDI Velocity Dynamics, no DVD-burning, no videotrack. No routing manager (but track manager, vsti manager, ...) Of course music studio offers already a lot for the money: there are many fx and soft synths included, MS16 will also include Vandal SE, automation, full latency compensation, MIDI editing also with score and drum editor, the original samplitude 32 bit float Audio engine, ... Greetings, Frank

    Multi Outs BFD2

There is a MIDI bounce command which offers two bounce methods ("all selected objects in current range" would be the remix), and also MIDI file export which will bounce the whole VIP MIDI into one MIDI file. Drag&Drop Merge would be handy, of course, but would lead to a bounce process then, too. Greetings, Frank

    Multi Outs BFD2

There are at least two possibilities: 1) You can overdub the MIDI recording into an already existing MIDI object. (MIDI Overdub Mode). 2) The BFD audio snare track can be switched to MIDI (which means simply that instead of audio MIDI will be recorded). Then disarm MIDI recording on the KICK track and enable Recording on the Snare track - that should do it. Option 1) has the advantage that you have the whole drum groove in the same MIDI track/object, it might be a little bit easier to edit/copy/split your drum programming then. (But I would seperate that MIDI track from the audio return track (Kick)) Option 2) has the advantage that any SOLO/MUTE action is more transparent. If you want to edit the whole drum kit, you can use the MIDI Multi-Object-Editing feature. (It is quite a unique feature of samplitude to be able to keep audio and MIDI on the same track - this offers a very clearly arranged way to deal with multi-output VSTis. On the other hand, since you can also seperate feeding MIDI tracks and audio return tracks, if you want, there is no fixed default VSTi routing scheeme available in samplitude which might be confusing at first. The VSTi routing assistant (which comes up if you insert any multi-output VSTi) offers 3 typical routing setups to be established automatically, but still there are other routings possible, which is especially interesting with BFD - you can combine the Snare TopMic and BottomMic on the same audio return track, for example, but having everything else seperate. To check your VSTi routing, use the manager's "VSTi" Tab.)

    Problem with vst help ASAP!!!

Seems to be a samplerate mismatch. Maybe you have to convert the original wave to samplerate 44,1 - or try with a VIP which has the same sample rate as the original waves - maybe the guru VST cannot do sample rate conversion on the fly...

    Midi Keyboard Help

Track monitoring must be enabled on the MIDI track - it serves as MIDI Thru then (little speaker icon). Hybrid/Mixer monitoring should also be activated. There are some exotic MIDI devices which don't send a valid timestamp - since V11 we offer an optional different time stamp mechanism which solves these kind of problems. But I am very sure that it is a routing problem on your side, not a general problem with the midi device.

    Midi Time Stamping?

The "use system timestamp" MIDI option is available since V11, but not in V10.x.
