Please review the following list of common errors and their solutions when installing MAGIX Software, if the problem you are experiencing is not on the list, then please contact MAGIX Support directly via this link.

Common Problems 

No connection to the network patch %APPDATA%

%1 is not a valid Win32 Application

An error occured during the installation of assembly component

An error occured during the conversion of the Media Database. You cannot use the Database with this product

The old version of the Firebird SQL Server - MAGIX Edition cannot be deleted. Please contact Technical Support

An error occured during the creation of the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents

The account already exists

The device is not ready

The registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.bmp cannot be opened

Error during the registration of the module C:\Program Files\Common Files\MAGIX Services\System\MediaExchangeProxy_x64.dll

No connection to the network patch %APPDATA%

This error normally occurs when there is a problem with the windows registry, which prevents our installer being able to access the Common Documents folder.

%1 is not a valid Win32 Application

This message can appear if you are still using Windows XP.

Some of our newer products now require a full 64bit Operating System, you will need to upgrade to Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 64bit in order to install the software.

 

 

 

An error occured during the installation of assembly component

This error message normally refers to a problem with an incorrectly installed Windows component. Please review the following Microsoft article:

Please follow the instructions on the website and then try installing the software again.

 

 

 

An error occured during the conversion of the Media Database. You cannot use the Database with this product

The old version of the Firebird SQL Server - MAGIX Edition cannot be deleted. Please contact Technical Support

Sometimes when specific data or entries in the registry are deleted, then it creates a rare case, that neither an uninstallation or a new installation of the MAGIX Firebird database is possible.

If this occurs then please use the following tool from Microsoft:

Use this tool to delete all listed versions of "Firebird SQL Server - MAGIX Edition".

Also then please manually delete the contents of the following folders:

  • Windows XP: C:\Documents und Settings\All Users\Application Data\MAGIX\Common\Database\
  • Windows Vista, 7 or 8.1: C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Common\Database\

If you cannot see the folders then please enable hidden files and folders:

Then restart your PC and reinstall the Firebird Database from the following link:

(If the message appears that the software is already installed, then please select the repair option).

 

 

 

An error occured during the creation of the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents

This normally indicates that there is a problem with the access rights to the folder. To check this please do the following:

Click on the Windows Start button in the bottom left

Search for %PUBLIC%

Select the folder Public and in the window that opens go up a level to the next directory so that you can see the Public folder there. Then right click on it and go to Properties.

Go to the Security tab and click on Edit... and select the user "Everyone". Set the option to Full Access to Allowed. Then click on Apply and OK.

Restart the computer and try the installation again.

 

 

 

The account already exists

Sometimes when specific data or entries in the registry are deleted, then it creates a rare case, that neither an uninstallation or a new installation of the MAGIX software is possible.

Please use the following tool from Microsoft:

The affected program should appear in the list, please select it and delete it. Then try to install the software again.

 

 

 

The device is not ready

This error message normally means that there was a problem with the DVD disc being read and that either the drive or disc is faulty.

We recommend to use the download version from our website for the latest versions. If you have an older registered version, then please log in at the MAGIX Customer Center and then get the download link from the My Products section.

The registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.bmp cannot be opened

To resolve this problem, then please do the following:
  1. Start the installation.
  2. When prompted whether to do a standard or custom installation, then select "Custom".
  3. Do not change the installation path and click on "Next".
  4. Choose if you want a start icon on the desktop and click on "Next".
  5. Remove all checks from the "Associate Filetypes" dialog and then click on "Next".
  6. Select whether you want the myphotobook component and click on "Next".
  7. The installation should then complete succesfully.

 

 

 

Error during the registration of the module C:\Program Files\Common Files\MAGIX Services\System\MediaExchangeProxy_x64.dll

The error normally occurs when security software, like Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware software has interfered with the module registration.

We recommend to temporarily disable any security software you have installed, for the duration of the installation or to create an exception for the module.

We also advise to disconnect your internet connection, while your security software is offline, to protect your computer.

 

 

 

Invalid drive:

This normally occurs if the Documents folder has been changed from default.

We recommend to temporarily revert the Documents folder back to the Windows default installation for the installation of our software.

You can do this by right clicking on the Documents folder and going to Properties. Then change the path to "C:\Users\Your Username\Documents". Then start the installation again.

Once it is installed correctly, then you can revert the folder path back to your desired setting.
